Vinted US · Seller fees
Does Vinted charge sellers fees in the US?
Short answer: no. Vinted US has no selling fees. The buyer pays a separate Vinted fee and shipping, and you keep 100% of your item price.

A worked example
You thrifted a jacket for $12, list it at $40 and spend $0.50 on a mailer. On Vinted:
- Selling fee: $0.00
- You keep: $40.00
- Profit after the jacket and packaging: $27.50 (69% margin)
- The buyer pays: $40.00 + Vinted fee $2.70 + shipping
Here's the same jacket on every platform (buyer pays shipping, 12 oz package):
| Platform | Fees | Shipping you pay | You keep | Profit | Margin | Buyer pays |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vinted US | $0.00 | $0.00 | $40.00 | $27.50 | 69% | $50.94 |
| Depop | $2.04 | $0.00 | $37.96 | $25.46 | 64% | ≤ $51.24 |
| Mercari | $4.74 | $0.00 | $35.26 | $22.76 | 57% | $49.10 |
| Whatnot | $4.90 | $0.00 | $35.10 | $22.60 | 57% | $48.24 |
| eBay | $6.96 | $0.00 | $33.04 | $20.54 | 51% | $48.24 |
| Poshmark | $8.00 | $0.00 | $32.00 | $19.50 | 49% | $46.49 |
What Vinted sellers actually pay for
- Bumps (optional). Paid visibility for 3 or 7 days. The price depends on duration and item price and is shown before you pay.
- Packaging. Mailers, tape and printing are on you.
- Custom shipping (rare). If you skip Vinted's prepaid label, you pay shipping upfront and should price it in.
Does “no seller fees” mean Vinted is always the best place to sell?
On seller payout, Vinted comes out on top in our $40 example ($40.00 vs $37.96 on Depop, the next best), because it charges sellers nothing. But a sale only happens if a buyer finds your item and accepts the total they see. On Vinted that total is $50.94 (item + Vinted fee + shipping), versus $46.49 on Poshmark, so a Vinted listing can sell more slowly at the same price. Fee breakdown
Vinted US
- Selling fee (Vinted charges sellers no selling fee)$0.00
- Buyer side: Vinted fee (usually 5% + $0.70)$2.70
- Buyer pays shipping and the Vinted fee (usually 5% + $0.70), so the same price costs your buyer more than on platforms with no buyer fee.
Depop
- Selling fee (No selling fee for US sellers)$0.00
- Payment processing (3.3% of $48.24 + $0.45)$2.04
- Buyer side: Marketplace fee (up to 5% + $1)≤ $3.00
Mercari
- Selling fee (10% of $47.39 (item + buyer-paid shipping))$4.74
- Buyer side: Buyer Protection (3.6% of item + shipping)$1.71
- Fee is charged on shipping the buyer pays, too.
Poshmark
- Poshmark fee (20% of $40.00)$8.00
- Buyer side: No buyer fee (removed Oct 2024)$0.00
- Buyer pays the flat Posh Post label (up to 5 lb).
Label estimate: $8.24 (USPS Ground Advantage, commercial, zone 5) for eBay, Depop and Whatnot; Mercari's own label: $7.39. Poshmark uses its flat $6.49 label. Vinted buyers normally pay the prepaid label.
Highest payout isn't the whole story. On Vinted the buyer pays $40.00 + a Vinted fee (~5% + $0.70 = $2.70) + shipping, so the same price costs your buyer more there, which can mean slower sales. Depop and Mercari buyers pay fees too; eBay, Poshmark and Whatnot list no buyer fee. Compare the “Buyer pays” column.

FAQ
Does Vinted take a percentage from sellers?
No. Vinted US doesn't take a percentage or a fixed fee from sellers. You receive the full item price once the order is completed.
What is the Vinted fee, and who pays it?
It's a mandatory platform fee the buyer pays at checkout when they use Buy now. Vinted says it's usually 5% of the price plus $0.70 (so $2.70 on a $40 item), and that it can vary with the item, order value and bundles.
Is there anything sellers pay for on Vinted?
Only optional extras. Bumps (paid visibility for 3 or 7 days) cost money, priced in the app. Your own packaging is a cost too. If you use custom shipping instead of Vinted's prepaid label, you pay that shipping upfront.
Do I pay for shipping as a Vinted seller?
Not normally. With Buy now the buyer pays shipping and you get a prepaid label. New sellers' first three sales also ship free for the buyer.
Why are my Vinted items more expensive for buyers than my listed price?
Because the buyer pays the Vinted fee and shipping on top of your price. Keep that in mind when you compare your price with the same item on other apps.
Will I get a 1099-K for reselling?
Under current federal rules, payment platforms only have to file Form 1099-K when your gross payments exceed $20,000 and you have more than 200 transactions in a year. Some states set lower thresholds, and a platform can send one anyway. A 1099-K reports gross payments, not profit, so keep records of what you paid for items, fees and shipping. This is general information, not tax advice; talk to a tax professional about your situation.
