Fee breakdown
  • Vinted US

    • Selling fee (Vinted charges sellers no selling fee)$0.00
    • Buyer side: Vinted fee (usually 5% + $0.70)$2.70
    • Buyer pays shipping and the Vinted fee (usually 5% + $0.70), so the same price costs your buyer more than on platforms with no buyer fee.
  • Depop

    • Selling fee (No selling fee for US sellers)$0.00
    • Payment processing (3.3% of $48.24 + $0.45)$2.04
    • Buyer side: Marketplace fee (up to 5% + $1)≤ $3.00
  • Mercari

    • Selling fee (10% of $47.39 (item + buyer-paid shipping))$4.74
    • Buyer side: Buyer Protection (3.6% of item + shipping)$1.71
    • Fee is charged on shipping the buyer pays, too.
  • Whatnot

    • Commission (8% of $40.00 (item price only))$3.20
    • Payment processing (2.9% of $48.24 + $0.30)$1.70
    • Buyer side: No buyer fee listed by Whatnot$0.00
  • eBay

    • Final value fee (13.6% of $48.24 (item + shipping + tax))$6.56
    • Per-order fee ($0.40 (order over $10))$0.40
    • Buyer side: No buyer fee listed by eBay$0.00
    • Fee includes shipping and sales tax the buyer pays.
  • Poshmark

    • Poshmark fee (20% of $40.00)$8.00
    • Buyer side: No buyer fee (removed Oct 2024)$0.00
    • Buyer pays the flat Posh Post label (up to 5 lb).

Label estimate: $8.24 (USPS Ground Advantage, commercial, zone 5) for eBay, Depop and Whatnot; Mercari's own label: $7.39. Poshmark uses its flat $6.49 label. Vinted buyers normally pay the prepaid label.

Highest payout isn't the whole story. On Vinted the buyer pays $40.00 + a Vinted fee (~5% + $0.70 = $2.70) + shipping, so the same price costs your buyer more there, which can mean slower sales. Depop and Mercari buyers pay fees too; eBay, Poshmark and Whatnot list no buyer fee. Compare the “Buyer pays” column.

How we calculate · Fees verified Oct 18, 2026

You keep = sale price − platform fees − any shipping you pay yourself. When the buyer pays shipping, that money buys the label, so it cancels out. Profit = what you keep − what you paid for the item − packaging. Margin = profit ÷ sale price. Sales tax is collected from the buyer and passed on, so it never adds to your payout, but some platforms charge their fee on it (set a tax rate under More options to see that). Buyer pays = item price + shipping the buyer covers + any buyer fee the platform publishes (Vinted usually 5% + $0.70, Depop up to 5% + $1, Mercari 3.6%; eBay, Poshmark and Whatnot list none) + sales tax if set. “Best payout” ranks by what you keep only, not by how fast an item sells.

Vinted US (table vinted-us-2026-10-18.2)

  • Sellers pay no selling fee. The buyer pays the Vinted fee, usually 5% + $0.70, plus shipping.
  • Vinted says the buyer fee varies with item, order value and bundles, so 5% + $0.70 is the typical case.
  • Bumps are optional; Vinted prices them by duration (3 or 7 days), item price and reach (local or international).
  • Lost or damaged USPS packages: Vinted says it may compensate up to $100 — keep that in mind for expensive items.

eBay (table ebay-us-2026-10-18.2)

  • Final value fee is charged on the total amount of the sale: item price, shipping, handling and sales tax.
  • Per-order fee: $0.30 if the total is $10 or less, $0.40 above $10.
  • Athletic sneakers sold through Authenticity Guarantee with an eBay-provided free label: no final value fee on shipping (option in the calculator).
  • eBay lists no separate buyer fee; buyers pay item, shipping and sales tax.
  • Assumes no eBay Store subscription, no promoted listings, and that you are within your free monthly insertion listings (250).
  • Some categories (business & industrial, NFTs, motors, real estate) are not modeled.

Poshmark (table poshmark-us-2026-10-18.2)

  • Under $15: flat $2.95. $15 and up: 20% of the sale price. Shipping and tax are not part of the fee base.
  • The buyer pays the flat Posh Post label (up to 5 lb). Over 5 lb the seller pays the upgrade: $5 up to 10 lb, $10 up to 15 lb.
  • Labels max out at 15 lb. Heavier orders must be split into boxes with extra labels; shipped on one label, Poshmark deducts $15 (15.01–25 lb) or the full USPS cost (over 25 lb). We mark these as not supported.
  • Listings under $3 can't be bought. No buyer fee (Poshmark removed its Buyer Protection Fee in Oct 2024).
  • Free shipping mode assumes you cover the full $6.49 label with a seller shipping discount.

Mercari (table mercari-us-2026-10-19)

  • 10% selling fee on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping. No separate payment processing fee.
  • Direct deposit is free; Instant Pay costs $3 per cash-out (not included).
  • Buyers pay a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on item + shipping; it doesn't come out of your payout.
  • Shipping uses Mercari's own prepaid USPS Ground Advantage label prices effective Oct 19, 2026 ("Best" rate, which needs package dimensions and a box within 1 cu ft / 22 in).

Depop (table depop-us-2026-10-18.2)

  • US sellers pay no Depop selling fee.
  • Payment processing (Depop Payments): 3.3% + $0.45 on item price + shipping + tax.
  • Boosted listings (new listings from March 23, 2026): 12% of the item price when a Boosted listing sells, assuming a Depop shipping label.
  • Buyers pay a Marketplace fee of up to 5% of the item price + up to $1 (we show the maximum; the exact amount is shown at checkout).

Whatnot (table whatnot-us-2026-09-21.2)

  • Commission is charged on the item price only. The rate depends on your 4-week sales tier and the category.
  • Payment processing: 2.9% + $0.30 on the full order (item + shipping + tax).
  • 0% commission on the part of a sale above $1,500 in select categories (TCG, coins, sports singles, comics, toys, bags, jewelry & watches) — a limited-time promotion. For sports cards it covers single cards only; sports breaks and Surprise Products are excluded.
  • Whatnot's help center lists no buyer fee; buyers pay item, shipping and tax.
  • Not modeled: promotional rates, the Premier Shop discount (ends Oct 31, 2026), custom rates.

Shipping estimate

USPS Ground Advantage label prices from the official USPS price files (time-limited holiday prices, in effect Oct 4, 2026 – Jan 17, 2027). Default: commercial price, zone 5, used for eBay, Depop and Whatnot. Mercari uses Mercari's own prepaid label table (rates effective Oct 19, 2026), Poshmark its flat label. Platform labels can be cheaper or pricier; use the label cost override if you know yours. With no weight (or over 20 lb with free shipping) we don't guess: the row is flagged until you enter a label cost.

What this means on Vinted

Because Vinted takes no selling fee, your Vinted profit is simply your price minus what you paid for the item and your packaging. The real costs to watch are sourcing, packaging and any bumps you buy. New to Vinted? Read how Vinted fees work for sellers and who pays shipping.

FAQ

Does Vinted charge sellers fees in the US?

No. Vinted US charges sellers no selling fee, so you keep 100% of your item price. The buyer pays a Vinted fee at checkout (usually 5% + $0.70, so $2.70 on a $40 item) plus shipping. Optional bumps are the only thing you'd pay for.

Who pays shipping on Vinted?

The buyer. When someone buys with the Buy now button, shipping is added to their total and you get a prepaid label. The exception is custom shipping, where you pay upfront and should build the cost into your price.

Is Vinted cheaper than Poshmark for sellers?

On fees, yes. On a $40 sale Poshmark takes $8.00 (20%), so you keep $32.00; on Vinted you keep the full $40.00. Poshmark charges a flat $2.95 under $15. But Vinted's buyer pays more: a Vinted fee of about $2.70 plus shipping on top of your price, while Poshmark lists no buyer fee. A higher total for the buyer can mean a slower sale, and where your buyers are matters too.

Will I get a 1099-K for reselling?

Under current federal rules, payment platforms only have to file Form 1099-K when your gross payments exceed $20,000 and you have more than 200 transactions in a year. Some states set lower thresholds, and a platform can send one anyway. A 1099-K reports gross payments, not profit, so keep records of what you paid for items, fees and shipping. This is general information, not tax advice; talk to a tax professional about your situation.
